My slumbering heart.

The Cliffs of Moher. I have never actually been here. I've never actually been to Ireland. But, look at this view. This seems like the kind of place where you could get some perspective, meditate for hours and then be like.. "alright everyone.. stand back" and fix everything wrong with the world. Maybe I'm exaggerating. A girl can hope.

I want to go on the hikes that I used to as a little girl. We used to go to Ludington and hike all the parks. Granted, back then it was a huge pain in the ass and at the mention of a hike I would all but cry. That was different though. This time, I could go with a small group of friends that I wouldn't be related to and wouldn't have to take care of ( I love my siblings as much as every other big sister.. but taking care of them whilst hiking is another story).

I feel that being in nature is comforting because it has everything it needs. It doesn't need me standing there at all, I'm just a visitor. No expectations, no choirs, no awkward conversation for the sake of conversation, just presence.

I'm reading Pride & Prejudice for the millionth time. I finally went and bought a new copy as mine has gone AWOL. My dialogue always goes through a loop when I read Jane Austen. I start talking with a bigger vocabulary and start describing things in more words than necessary. hehe. I guess I just wish people still talked like that.. and dressed like that too. I'm not a fan of this sweatpants / sweatshirt movement we're in. It seems so slobbish and completely unnecessary. I get that people want to be comfortable. But, you can be comfortable AND in proper attire at the same time. I shouldn't have to see you at Macy's dressed like you just came from a dirty sleepover. We may be getting closer to being a tolerant and accepting society, but I don't think that means we have to regress in culture and propriety. Seriously though, when the caveman exhibit at the museum looks better kept than the people out and about it's time to pull in the reins a bit.

don't you think?

Grizzly Bear.

I am addicted to the song Slow Life by Grizzly Bear. It has been on repeat all day (when I had a second to sit down anyway..). Given my present circumstances, this song is a very welcome relief. I always pick out songs or books at certain periods in my life that help ease the pressure, and then attach myself to them. If I lay on my bed with the lights off with this song playing, it feels like I'm having an out of body experience in space. hehe, that sounds creepy. Being completely honest though, I've never been one to rely on drugs or alcohol to put myself in a different place, instead I have used music, literature or the arts.

I have journals filled with lyrics that have made me feel. It is so inspiring to hear a song speak to you in a way that people can't.

Lately I have been so oriented on working out and eating right. I am giving myself a goal to meet so that maybe I will have a little more control in my own life. I feel like I have gone from being so independent all my life to these past couple of years being completely dependent. I really despise dependency. It is kind of a fear for me. I've always been self sufficient and I don't like putting decisions in other people's hands. These past two years I have basically given the reins to my life to someone else. I really need them back. For my sanity, I need them back.

in other news.. I discovered poladroid. Which I have become obsessed with. I"m turning every picture I love into a polaroid. Here are some samples!!

Jonas Steven..

Past and Present

So I haven't updated this thing since april. I promised myself I would keep up with it. I guess we know a little bit more about my willpower / busy schedule. I'm going to do a huge update of pictures from the last couple of months. Pictures of what I have been doing! So be excited.

I Went as a pumpkin for Halloween. I made my costume! I should add I had some serious help from Hollie House.

I was blonde for maybe a whole two weeks. My hair has been a location of some serious change lately. I've had the same hair cut / color since I was a junior in high school, so I thought I'd change it up. I am now back to the same cut & color I had in high school. Old habits die hard.

This was at the first techno rave party at Rosa Parks circle in Grand Rapids. I used make up for both of our faces (no face paint here!). Kristine is a zebra and I am a giraffe. You can't really tell here, but the colors were really bright and blended in with one another.

Jonas received a membership to the Grand Rapids Children's Museum for his first birthday. We used it quite a bit this summer! here, we're blowing bubbles with the big bubble tables. Jonas loves his bubbles, in fact, he just started blowing them himself!

I had a cupcake and candy party for the ladies. We all made cupcakes and brought pink champagne (or in some cases.. liquor.) Boys were not allowed and there was a dance party that ensued in my living room.

Some of the cupcakes I made.

This year my sisters are seniors in high school! SENIORS!! I am so old. I told them I would take their senior pictures, and here are some of Jessica's. I haven't had the opportunity to do Samantha's yet.

This Jonas' birthday cake I made. He is a huge Yo Gabba Gabba fan. He turned one this year!
We had a huge party for him at Leah & Wendy's house. Since Yo Gabba Gabba didn't make any birthday decorations back then (now they do.. go figure.) I had to make all of them. But it was well worth it!

So.. I have left a lot out. But I don't think you can fit a whole 7 months into one post. Hopefully this will teach me a lesson that I need to be a better blogger.
